How to Get on an Inmate's Visitor List at Grimes County Jail
Grimes County Jail only allows visits from people on an inmate's approved visitor list. Here's the catch: that list maxes out at five names. Confirm you're on it before making the drive.
- Ask the inmate to add you to their list - At Grimes County Jail, the inmate’s visitation list can only include five approved names, so make sure they’re using one of those slots for you.
- Have them confirm staff approval is needed - The list isn’t final until correctional staff approve it, so it’s worth asking the inmate to follow up through the normal channels available to them.
- Plan for check-in at the visitation desk - When you arrive, you’ll check in at the visitation desk and tell staff who you’re there to visit.
- Confirm the visitation schedule before you travel - Visitation days and times are set by the Sheriff and posted, so don’t assume the schedule is the same every week.
- Ask whether you’re showing as an approved visitor - Before you drive out, call the jail and verify that your name is on the inmate’s approved list.
- Double-check what you’ll do at arrival - You’ll be checking in at the visitation desk and stating who you’re visiting, so arrive ready to provide the inmate’s name.
Tip: Visits last a minimum of 20 minutes, and each inmate gets two 20-minute visits. Only one adult (age 15+) and one child can visit at a time, first-come, first-served.
Note: Show up without being on the approved list and you'll be turned away. Verify your status before you go.
Bringing kids? Plan ahead. Grimes County Jail doesn't allow small children to be left unattended, and only one adult plus one child can visit at a time. Since visits are first-come, first-served, have a backup plan in case you need to wait or take turns.
