Sending Money and Mail to Someone at Lockhart: Who Can Deposit, Where to Send, and Who to Contact

TDCJ tightened the rules for money deposits starting September 1, 2020. Only people already connected to the inmate through TDCJ systems can deposit: you must be on the inmate's approved visitor list or their Inmate Telephone (phone) list. Not on one of those lists? Your deposit won't go through - even if you're family.

Don't mail money to Lockhart - or to any inmate's unit of assignment. TDCJ is clear on this: trust fund deposits should follow the Inmate Trust Fund mailing and deposit instructions, not go to the unit. Keep money deposits separate from personal mail to avoid delays and misrouted items.

1. Verify the inmate’s TDCJ or SID number - you’ll need the correct 8-digit number, and the TDCJ Offender Search is the fastest way to confirm it.
2. Confirm you’re an allowed depositor - you must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or their Inmate Telephone (phone) list.
3. Use the official Inmate Trust Fund deposit process - follow the Trust Fund mailing/deposit instructions, and do not send deposit money to the Lockhart facility.
