The complex includes an administration building, four dormitories, and three single-cell housing units totaling 88,856 square feet. Polk has 1,076 total beds across housing and segregation areas, though the standard operating capacity is listed at 900, and published housing figures range from 948 to 1,076 inmates. The institution staffs about 538 employees. It houses inmates ages 18–21 and serves as a diagnostic processing center, providing work assignments, education programs, and Drug Alcohol Recovery Treatment.
