Llamadas telefónicas, visitas por video y mensajería: cómo configurar y solucionar problemas
- Confirm what system the facility uses. In Massachusetts state prisons, video visitation is run through Securus Video Visitation, so you will be directed to create a Securus Video Visitation account. Some county facilities also use Securus for phone services. Confirm the vendor with the facility before you pay or share any personal information.
- Create the right type of phone account. Securus offers AdvanceConnect (a prepaid calling account) and also lets you add funds to a person’s Securus Debit account so they can pay for Securus services available at their location.
- Remember how calls work. Incarcerated people typically place outgoing calls from phones inside the facility after they are assigned housing, and they cannot receive incoming calls.
- If calls are not coming through, contact the telecom vendor. For example, if you are having trouble receiving calls at the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction, need a block/unblock, or need help setting up an account, you are directed to contact Securus Technologies at 800-844-6591.
- Assume calls are monitored. Facilities post notices that calls are monitored, and some facilities also warn that calls are recorded and can be used in court. If you need to talk about legal strategy, ask the facility how attorney calls are handled.
Tip: If the facility uses an approved-contact list for video visits, handle that first. Massachusetts DOC requires video visitors to complete the pre-approval process and be listed on the person's pre-approved visiting list before scheduling a video visit.
No. Middlesex Sheriff’s Office states that incarcerated individuals cannot receive incoming telephone calls, and calls that do happen are treated as monitored and recorded by many systems. Federal guidance also states that a notice is posted next to inmate telephones advising that calls are monitored.
