Getting on the Visitor List at Albemarle: The 18-Person Limit, Enrollment Windows, and Exceptions
Getting on someone's visitor list at Albemarle follows the statewide NCDAC process—and timing matters. Here's how the list works, what the 18-person cap means, when you can make changes, and which visitors don't count against the limit.
The offender has to initiate the process. They mail blank visitor application forms to the people they want visits from - so you'll need your loved one to send you the application first.
Each offender can have a maximum of 18 approved visitors. Once the list is full, no new applications get approved unless the offender removes someone during an open enrollment period.
Offenders can't swap people on and off the list whenever they want. Open enrollment to add or change visitors happens every six months, based on the offender's admission date.
If your loved one transfers to a different facility, their visitor list carries over - you don't have to start from scratch. But when someone is released or paroled, the list becomes inactive. If they're re-admitted later, the whole visitation process starts over.
Exemptions
- ✓ Legal officials (after registering with the facility prior to visiting)
- ✓ Law enforcement officials (after registering with the facility prior to visiting)
- ✓ Consular officials (after registering with the facility prior to visiting)
- ✓ Local and state Family Services officials (after registering with the facility prior to visiting)
- ✓ Juvenile Court officials (after registering with the facility prior to visiting)
Note: These registered officials do not count toward the offender’s 18 approved visitors, but they still must register with the facility before visiting.
