Understanding Alexandria's Free Video Visit Policy
Each inmate at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center gets two free video visits per week. Visits last 20 minutes each. The system is available daily - including holidays - from 7 a.m. to midnight Eastern Time, giving you plenty of flexibility to schedule.
You'll use SmartInmate.com to schedule and conduct these visits.
Note: All video visits with family and friends are monitored and recorded.
Need more visits, or running into technical issues? Contact the vendor directly. Smart Communications handles all technical support and account questions for remote video visitation - the Alexandria Sheriff's Office won't be able to help with system problems.
For sign-up instructions and pricing on visits beyond the free allotment, check SmartInmate/Smart Communications directly. Account setup is quick and free.
- Plan your two weekly visits - since each inmate gets two free 20-minute video visits per week, decide ahead of time which days and times will work best.
- Schedule at least a day ahead - visits have to be scheduled the day before the visit.
- Don’t schedule too far out - you can schedule no more than seven days in advance, so if you don’t see the time you want, check again as the week opens up.
- ✓ If you can’t do a visit from home, you can come to the Public Safety Center for a scheduled video visit and use a terminal in the Detention Center lobby for free.
Tip: Having login, scheduling, or audio/video problems? Contact Smart Communications/SmartInmate support directly with your account details ready. The Alexandria Sheriff's Office can't troubleshoot the system for you.
