How to Create a TDCJ Online Visitation Account (Alfred D. Hughes Unit)

You have to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation account - staff can't do it for you. They can help with certain updates (like names and addresses), but only after your account already exists.

Choose your email address carefully before registering. Once an account is created, it can't be deleted - and you can't change the email address tied to it.

  1. Start the account setup - choose the option to create an account.
  2. Enter a valid email address and submit - use an email you can access right now.
  3. Check your inbox for the registration email - it will include a 7-digit validation code.
  4. Use the email to finish registration - follow the link in that message and enter the 7-digit code when prompted to complete the sign-up.

Once you set your password and submit it, you'll land on the Background Questionnaire. Every question must be answered before you can move forward, so plan to complete it in one sitting if possible.

Reminder: Follow the on-screen password requirements exactly. If your password doesn't meet the system's rules, you won't be able to submit and reach the questionnaire.

Profile Tips Phone Inmate

  • Enter your phone number as XXX XXX XXXX (use spaces, no dashes).

When adding the person you want to visit, the system requires their TDCJ (SID) number to be exactly 8 digits. Enter too few or too many, and it won't match - you'll be stuck on that step.

Watch the formatting: Phone numbers with dashes (or missing spaces) and inmate numbers that aren't exactly 8 digits can block your progress - even when everything else looks right.

  1. Enter your email address - use the same email you registered with.
  2. Click “Forgot Password/Reset Password” - it’s on the login screen.
  3. Follow the email instructions - you’ll receive steps to reset your password.

Common Pitfalls

  • Use an email address you plan to keep using - once the account is created, it can’t be deleted and the email can’t be changed.
  • Type your phone number exactly as XXX XXX XXXX (spaces, no dashes).
  • Keep the registration email handy - you’ll need the 7-digit validation code and the link to complete registration.
  • Don’t skip the Background Questionnaire - every question has to be answered before you can move on.

One more thing: Don't wait for staff to "set you up." Visitor accounts have to be created by the visitor - waiting on someone else will only delay your visit.

To schedule a visit at the Alfred D. Hughes Unit, create your own TDCJ Online Visitation account. The email you register with is permanent - it can't be changed, and the account can't be deleted. Start by submitting a valid email, then use the link and 7-digit validation code from your registration email to finish setup. Complete every question in the Background Questionnaire. When adding an inmate to your profile, make sure the TDCJ/SID number is exactly 8 digits.
