How victims can speak to the Board of Pardons and Paroles lead voter (registering with Victim Services)

Statutory victims who want to visit the Board Office or speak to the lead voter - by phone or video/Zoom - must first register with the TDCJ Victim Services Division (VSD). Call (800) 848-4284 to register.

Even if you don’t plan to speak to the lead voter, you can still be heard in writing. Anyone can submit written protest materials to the TDCJ Victim Services Division (VSD) by mail, email, or fax.

If you want accompaniment and support services through this process, you can contact the Board’s Victims Liaison. Call 512-406-5347 or email bpp-victim.liaison@tdcj.texas.gov.

You'll have 20 minutes to speak with the lead voter. That time goes fast, so focus on what you most need the Board to understand.

Timing matters. The parole review process starts well before the Board actually votes. For an initial review, the process kicks off about 4–6 months before the vote.

For cases that have been reviewed before, the timeline is tighter. Subsequent reviews typically enter the process about 4 months before the Board vote.

Tip: You can check an offender’s review status through the TDCJ inmate search tool.
