TDCJ restricts who can deposit money into an inmate's trust fund account. Since September 1, 2020, only people on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can make deposits. Not on either list? Your deposit won't go through. Confirm with your loved one that you've been added before sending anything.

Accepted Methods and Deposit Slip

  • Money orders or cashier’s checks
  • Monthly checking account debit (ACH)
  • Access Corrections (Secure Deposits)
  • ACE (America’s Cash Express)
  • eCommDirect (provided by Texas.gov)
  • JPay
  • TouchPay Payment System

Sending a money order or cashier's check? You'll need a deposit slip from the inmate - ask them to mail it to you first. Missing the slip is one of the most common reasons deposits get delayed or rejected.

Cash and personal checks aren't accepted for trust fund deposits. TDCJ will return them to the sender.

Some deposits won't be available right away. Single transactions of $500.00 or more are held for 14 days before the inmate can access the funds. The same hold applies to insurance, company, payroll, and estate checks. If timing matters, plan ahead - your loved one won't have access to held funds immediately.

Do not mail deposits to the Hughes Unit: Trust fund deposits should not be sent to the inmate’s facility of assignment - use the authorized deposit options instead.

Be careful about who you send money to. TDCJ advises against sending funds to inmates you don't know personally, or sending money as a "favor" for someone else. Pen-pal relationships are sometimes used to solicit funds. If you encounter extortion or an extortion attempt, report it to the unit warden or the Office of the Inspector General.
