Before You Register a Phone for Inmate Calls at Alfred D. Hughes Unit
Registering your phone number is the first step to receiving calls from someone at TDCJ. Getting everything ready beforehand will save you time and frustration.
How to send messages, photos, and packages
To receive phone calls from someone at Alfred D. Hughes Unit, register your telephone number through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment and provide the inmate's TDCJ ID number. The unit's Inmate Technology office lists phone-related hours as Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (effective February 2, 2026), though TDCJ pages list vendor phone-answering hours inconsistently. On the unit, phones are generally available early morning through late evening. Calls have time limits and may be monitored. Remote video visits go through Securus: each visit costs $10.00, lasts 60 minutes, and inmates are limited to one per month on set schedules. Having issues with phone, e-messaging, tablets, or video services? Use the ITS Contact Form or send a written complaint to the Inmate Technology Services Contract Manager.
