Setting up your first video visit with someone at Alger Correctional Facility — step-by-step

Before touching GTL, confirm you're on the incarcerated person's Approved Visitor List. This is the first gate - only approved visitors can request video visits once online scheduling opens.

Not approved yet? Start with the Michigan Department of Corrections

1. Go to the GTL Visitor website - this is where Michigan DOC video visits are managed.
2. Create your GTL Visitor account - set up your login so you can submit and manage visit requests.
3. Request to visit the person at their assigned facility - submit the request inside your GTL account for the facility where they’re currently housed.
4. Wait for GTL approval - you can’t schedule a video visit until you’ve been approved on the GTL site.
5. Schedule your video visit after approval - once your GTL approval is in place, you’ll be able to request a scheduled video visit for that facility.

Timing matters when booking. You can schedule video visits up to 7 days in advance, but no closer than 48 hours before the visit time. Plan a little ahead - just not too far. Visits run 20 minutes. That goes fast, so sign in on time and make the most of it.

• ✓ Pay in advance - the person who schedules the visit is the one who must pay before the visit happens.

Visit request denied? Can't get a time slot? Check these three things first. First, verify you're approved on the GTL site - without that approval, scheduling won't work. Second, check your timing. Booking more than 7 days out or within 48 hours of the visit? The system blocks both. Third, confirm payment. Scheduled video visits must be paid in advance by the person booking. Payment issues can stop a visit from going through. If everything looks right and you're still stuck, contact GTL support about account or scheduling errors.
