How to Send Money to Facility
Adding money to an account is usually about keeping tablet services running: messaging, video visits, and calls. Here's what we know about this facility, plus a few things worth confirming before you send funds.
Friends and family can deposit funds into an Inmate Trust Account to cover tablet services. If you want to pay for video visits, messages, or tablet-based calling, this is the account that funds those features.
Most tablet features have per-use costs, so plan accordingly. Video visits run $0.25 per minute. Electronic messages from friends and family cost $0.25 each. Adding a photo costs another $0.25 per attachment (only friends and family can send photos). Video messages are $1 each for a 30-second clip. Tablet-based calling is $0.19 per minute for in-state and out-of-state calls, and $0.50 per minute for international calls.
Video visits require a GTL account. Create one to get added to your loved one's video contact list. You'll also need the GTL Friends and Family app to accept on-demand video visits.
- Create your GTL account: This is required for family and friends to be added to the video contact list.
- Get added to the person’s video contact list: Once your account is set up, the next step is being added so you can participate in video visits.
- Add funds to the Inmate Trust Account: Friends and family can add money to the incarcerated person’s Inmate Trust Account so they can pay for tablet services (including things like messaging, video visits, and calling).
- ✓ Budget for video visits at $0.25 per minute.
- ✓ Plan for electronic messages from friends and family at $0.25 per message.
- ✓ If you want to send photos, budget $0.25 per photo attachment (sent with an electronic message). Photo attachments are limited to friends and family.
- ✓ If you want to send a video message, budget $1 per video message (30 seconds long, attached to an electronic message).
- ✓ If calls are the priority, plan around tablet calling rates of $0.19 per minute (in-state and out-of-state) and $0.50 per minute (international).
What to Verify
- ✓ Confirm the current video visit rate is still $0.25 per minute.
- ✓ Confirm electronic messages from friends and family are still $0.25 per message.
- ✓ Confirm photo attachments are still $0.25 per attachment, and ask if there are any limits that affect how many can be sent.
- ✓ Confirm video messages are still $1 each and limited to 30 seconds.
- ✓ Confirm tablet calling rates are still $0.19 per minute (in-state and out-of-state) and $0.50 per minute (international).
- ✓ Verify a GTL account is still required for family and friends to be added to the video contact list.
- ✓ Ask whether there are any extra approval steps before you can be added (for example, identity checks or account verification steps).
- ✓ Confirm what information is needed to add funds to the Inmate Trust Account (and whether there are any limits or processing delays that could affect access to tablet services).
Note: Only friends and family can send photo attachments with electronic messages. If you're unsure how the facility defines that, confirm before trying to send photos.
For the most accurate instructions, check the facility's official inmate tablet information and GTL's help resources. If anything is unclear (how to add funds, how long deposits take to post, who qualifies as "friends and family"), call the facility directly before you send money.
