Virtual visits are a practical way to stay connected when getting to the facility isn't an option. Here's how virtual visitation works at Allendale—setup, scheduling, costs, and the rules that can end a visit early.

If you’re trying to figure out whether you’re approved (or why you can’t schedule), start with the SCDC visitation office. You can email visitation@doc.sc.gov or call the Visitation Inquiry Line at 803-896-1838 and press 1 for application-process questions.

You must be on the inmate's approved visitation list before you can request a virtual visit at Allendale. Once approved, create your VisitMe account through GTL at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app to request and manage visits.

There's a set scheduling window to work within. Virtual visits must be scheduled at least three days in advance, and you can't book more than seven days out.

Visits run in 50-minute time slots, and every session starts on the hour - no exceptions. Be in front of your device 15 minutes early so you're ready when the session opens.

Rate update (effective Feb. 1, 2025): SCDC now charges $0.16 per minute for virtual visits. A full 50-minute visit costs $8 - this replaces the older $10 flat rate.

Visits are still scheduled in 50-minute blocks, but billing is based on actual minutes used at $0.16 per minute (effective Feb. 1, 2025). If a visit ends early, you're only charged for the time you used.

Multiple people can join from your end, but there's a hard cap: a maximum of four approved visitors per virtual visit.

Recorded and enforced: All virtual visits are recorded and subject to review. Inappropriate behavior can end a visit immediately and lead to sanctions. Avoid prohibited locations during your visit - bedrooms, bathrooms, and nightclubs are off-limits.

For account setup or scheduling issues, sign in through GTL VisitMe at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app. If the problem is approval-related - your name doesn't match the approved list, you're not showing as eligible, or you have application questions - contact the SCDC visitation office at visitation@doc.sc.gov or 803-896-1838 (press 1).
