Before Your First Visit to Alvin S. Glenn: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Bring a photo ID. Staff verify your identity before allowing you in, so don't leave it in the car or assume another form of ID will work. If you're visiting with someone else, they'll need their own photo ID too.

Dress appropriately. Alvin S. Glenn enforces a dress code, and staff will flag anything that doesn't meet it. Unsure about an outfit? Change before you go. Getting stopped at check-in can mean losing your visit entirely.

Keep your group small - only two visitors are allowed at a time. Children count toward that limit. If more than two of you show up hoping to go in together, someone will be turned away or asked to wait.

Visits are limited in frequency too. Each detainee gets one one-hour visit per week. Coordinate with other family members ahead of time so you're not accidentally competing for the same slot.

Don't plan on walking in and scheduling at the window. As of August 18, 2024, walk-in scheduling is no longer allowed, and detainees can't schedule family visits using blue sheets. All visits must be set up through the GTL scheduling system before you arrive.

On-site visiting hours run Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Arrive at your reserved day and time, and give yourself a buffer so you're not rushing through check-in. Show up outside those hours - or outside your scheduled slot - and you may not get in.
