Understanding Alvin S. Glenn's August 2024 Visitation Scheduling Rules
If your visitation routine changed in late August 2024, you're not imagining it. Alvin S. Glenn updated how visits get scheduled, and the old informal options no longer work.
Alvin S. Glenn ended "blue sheet" visit scheduling effective August 18, 2024. Detainees can no longer use blue sheets to set up visits for family members.
Walk-in scheduling also ended on August 18, 2024. All visits now have to be scheduled through the facility's visitation scheduling system, not arranged in person at the door.
The only way to set up a visit is through the official visitation scheduling system. Showing up hoping to schedule on-site won't work. Neither will relying on a detainee to put you on a list.
Pay attention to how the scheduling information is organized. The system lists both lobby and video visitation schedules grouped by housing unit and day of the week. The right day depends on where the detainee is housed.
Weekly limits still apply under the new system. Detainees are permitted only one lobby visit per week, so you won't be able to book multiple in-person sessions in the same week.
Detainees are also limited to one video visit per week. Think of these as two separate caps: one lobby visit and one video visit.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Confirm the detainee’s current housing unit before you try to book, since the schedule is grouped by unit and day.
- ✓ Use the unit/day grouping to pick the right day for that housing unit. For example, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Fox Trot units have visitation on Monday and Wednesday.
- ✓ Before you click confirm, double-check you are not trying to exceed the weekly limits (one lobby visit per week and one video visit per week).
- ✓ If you are trying to book a lobby visit, make sure you are viewing lobby availability (not video), since both are listed in the same scheduling system.
Tip: Not seeing the times you expected? Double-check that you're looking at the correct housing unit and its assigned day group. One wrong selection can make it look like nothing is available.
With walk-ins and blue-sheet scheduling gone, planning ahead matters more than before. Wait until the day you want to visit, and you may have no way to schedule at all.
- Stop relying on blue sheets. As of August 18, 2024, detainees cannot schedule your visit using blue sheets.
- Do not plan on walk-in scheduling. Walk-ins are no longer allowed, so showing up to set an appointment in person will not work.
- Schedule through the visitation scheduling system. Use the system to choose an available lobby visit or video visit time that fits the detainee’s schedule.
If you get stuck, call the facility at 803-576-3200. This is especially helpful if you need clarity on which unit and day grouping applies to the person you're trying to visit.
