Which Days Can You Visit? Understanding Alvin S. Glenn's Housing-Unit Schedule and Video-Visit Hours

At Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, you can't just show up any day you want - your loved one's housing unit determines which days you can book. All visits must be scheduled through the visitation scheduling system, where you'll sign in to reserve and manage upcoming visits. Keep the weekly limits in mind: detainees are allowed only one lobby visit and one video visit per week. And if you're used to older methods, that's changed. As of Sunday, August 18, 2024, detainees can no longer schedule visits for family members using blue sheets, and walk-in scheduling is no longer allowed.

The visitation schedule groups housing units by day, and that assignment applies to both lobby and video visits. If your person is in Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, or Fox Trot, you'll book on Monday or Wednesday. Hotel, Golf, India, and Juliet have visitation on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Kilo, Lima, Mike, and Uniform are assigned to Friday and Saturday. A few units have more flexibility. Papa, X-Ray, and Yankee have visitation Monday through Friday - helpful if weekend slots fill up fast.

Tip: Always confirm the inmate’s current housing unit and the assigned visitation day(s) in the scheduling portal before you book.

When you book through the GTL scheduling portal, the housing-unit schedule controls which dates you can select. Even if a time slot looks available, it has to fall on a day that matches your loved one's assigned housing-unit schedule. If it doesn't, pick a different date that lines up.

  1. Sign in to the visitation scheduling system - This is where you schedule and manage upcoming visits.
  2. Confirm the housing unit and assigned day(s) - Use the portal’s schedule info so you’re working from the correct unit/day pairing.
  3. Choose a date and time that falls on an eligible day - Your visit has to be booked on one of the assigned visitation days for that housing unit.
  4. Don’t plan on walk-ins or “blue sheet” scheduling - Effective August 18, 2024, blue sheets are no longer used and walk-in scheduling isn’t allowed.

In-person (lobby) visiting hours run Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Within that window, your actual options depend on the housing-unit day assignment and available appointment times.

Video visitation is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. That's a shorter window than lobby visits. If you're trying to book after work or in the evening, in-person visits may offer more options - as long as your housing-unit day matches.

Reminder: Both lobby and video visits are scheduled in the same portal, but the hours differ - video visits run 8:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., while in-person hours run 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Double-check that you've selected the visit type you actually want before confirming.

Planning Tips

  • Check every eligible day tied to the housing unit (some units have two specific days; others include three days, weekends, or Monday–Friday) and look for the first open slot.
  • Confirm the housing unit in the portal right before you book, then pick a date that matches the assigned day(s).
  • If you’re deciding between lobby and video, compare the hours: lobby runs later into the evening than video.
  • Remember the weekly limit: one lobby visit and one video visit per week per detainee.
  • Schedule through the visitation scheduling system - don’t plan on walk-in scheduling.

If your loved one's unit has multiple eligible days, plan around the weekly limits instead of booking everything at once. Detainees are allowed one lobby visit and one video visit per week. Use the portal to track what's already scheduled - you don't want to accidentally double-book the same visit type and lose a slot you needed.
