Anyone 16 or older needs a valid photo ID to enter the visiting area at Appalachee Correctional Institution. Staff check it at the door, so double-check you have it before leaving your car.

Every visitor must wear a shirt. If your top offers minimal coverage, staff may decide it doesn't count as a "real shirt" and turn you away at check-in.

Shoes are required too. Wear something you can keep on the entire visit, not footwear that comes apart or has removable pieces.

Footwear rule: Heelys are banned, along with shoes or sandals that have removable parts.

Watch the length on bottoms. Dresses, skirts, and Bermuda-length shorts can't be more than three inches above the knee. Go shorter and you'll be denied entry.

Coverage counts as much as length. See-through or very tight clothing can get you stopped at the door even if the hemline passes inspection. When in doubt, go with something looser and more opaque.

Printable Checklist

  • If you are 16 or older, bring a valid photo ID
  • Wear a shirt (no exceptions)
  • Wear shoes (no exceptions)
  • Do not wear Heelys
  • Avoid footwear with removable parts
  • Skip see-through fabric and very tight clothing
  • If wearing a dress, skirt, or Bermuda-length shorts, make sure it is not more than 3 inches above the knee

Tip: Enforcement can be strict, and a long drive is a rough way to learn a rule. If possible, confirm current dress code requirements with the Florida Department of Corrections visitation information or call the institution before you travel.
