How Mail Works at Arapahoe County Jail: Letters and Photos Go Digital
Arapahoe County Jail delivers personal mail digitally. Here's how to send letters, drawings, and messages so they actually reach your loved one.
Personal mail at Arapahoe County Jail doesn't arrive as paper. Letters, pictures, and drawings get scanned and delivered digitally through ViaPath tablets - inmates view them in the "Facility Messages" app under the free profile. The original physical item won't be handed over.
Note: Inmate-to-inmate mail is not permitted at this facility. If you’re trying to help someone pass a message to another incarcerated person, it won’t be delivered.
Planning to mail photos? Know the restrictions first. Since Dec 1, 2022, inmates cannot receive original photographs, computer-generated photos, or printed internet material. Don't send printed photos - even ones from your home printer - or pages pulled from websites expecting them to get through.
Mail gets processed Monday through Friday, excluding county holidays. Sending something time-sensitive? Build in extra days for weekends and holiday closures.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Use the facility name: Arapahoe County Detention Center, CO
- ✓ Include the inmate’s full name
- ✓ Include the inmate identifier (ID number)
- ✓ Address it to: P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131
- Write with digital viewing in mind - Personal mail is delivered digitally through ViaPath tablets in the “Facility Messages” app, so keep your message clear and easy to read on a screen.
- Avoid sending photos or internet printouts - Since inmates can’t receive original photographs, computer-generated photographs, or internet material (effective Dec 1, 2022), don’t rely on those items making it through.
- Keep it simple and letter-focused - Stick to a straightforward letter or drawing that can be digitized cleanly, so your loved one can actually see what you sent on their tablet.
Timing reminder: Processing happens Monday–Friday (excluding county holidays), so weekends and holidays can add delays.
