How to Request Spiritual Support for Someone in Ashe County Detention Center
If your loved one is at Ashe County Detention Center and needs spiritual support, you can request a volunteer chaplain visit or help connecting with outside clergy.
The Chaplain Program at Ashe County Detention Center provides counseling on request. Volunteer chaplains meet with inmates, but detention center staff and administration can also ask for support. As a family member, you're essentially asking the jail to connect your loved one with on-site spiritual care.
Not every faith tradition has a local volunteer available. To bridge that gap, the chaplain's room has a HomeWAV video visitation link so inmates can connect remotely with clergy or religious leaders who aren't represented locally. If your loved one wants a specific spiritual leader or tradition, mention that when you reach out - the chaplain can determine whether an in-person visit or remote connection works best.
To request spiritual support, email the Ashe County Chaplain Program at chaplain@asheso.com. You can also call 336-846-5611 - this is the detention center's main line, so ask to be routed to the chaplain program. For written requests, mail to: Ashe County Sheriff's Office, 140 Government Cir., Jefferson, NC 28640.
- ✓ Incarcerated person’s full name (exact spelling)
- ✓ Booking number (if you know it)
- ✓ What kind of spiritual support you’re requesting (chaplain visit, counseling, connection to outside clergy)
- ✓ Any time-sensitive context (for example, a death in the family)
- ✓ Your name and your best callback number and/or email
- ✓ How to reach you if staff need clarification (chaplain@asheso.com or 336-846-5611)
You don't need a "perfect" reason to reach out. Maybe your loved one wants someone to talk to, needs spiritual encouragement, or is going through a difficult moment. Chaplains also support detention center staff during crises or emotionally heavy situations. When you contact the program, include your loved one's name and a brief reason for the request so staff can route it appropriately.
Note: If the situation feels urgent, call the detention center at 336-846-5611 first, then follow up by email at chaplain@asheso.com if needed.
