Before Your First Visit to Attica: Arrival Times, Visitor Limits, and What the Hospitality Center Offers
Visiting someone at Attica goes smoother when you know the schedule rules before you drive out. This guide covers the calendar group system, arrival cutoffs, visitor limits, and what to expect from the hospitality center.
Before you make the trip, check Attica's posted visitation schedule and confirm which letter group your loved one falls under. Visits are scheduled by the first letter of the incarcerated person's last name - A–K on one weekend, L–Z on the other. Show up on the wrong weekend and you won't be able to visit.
Note: On Attica’s visitation calendar, holidays are marked in red - double-check those dates when you’re planning travel.
General visitation at Attica runs on weekends from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM. If you're traveling from out of town, plan your day around that window - rushing at the end isn't worth it.
Arrival cutoff: For general weekend visitation, the latest arrival time is 2:00 PM.
Visiting someone in SHU custody? The schedule is different. They're allowed one non-legal visit within a seven-day period, held from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Latest arrival is 1:30 PM.
Plan your group size ahead of time. Each visit allows up to three visitors, plus one child under age five. That child must sit on an adult's lap during the visit.
Attica allows up to two split visits per day for an incarcerated individual. This helps when family members can't all come at the same time, or when you need to rotate visitors within the limits.
Arrive early? The DOCCS Visitor Hospitality Center gives you a place to regroup before heading inside. You'll find restrooms, a baby changing station, and lockers for personal belongings. It's also where you can review visitation rules and package procedures before entering the facility.
Packages policy: Packages and articles are only accepted when shipped directly from vendors (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.). Family and friends cannot bring packages during visits or mail packages directly to Attica.
