Visitation

Before You Go: What You Can (and Can't) Bring Into Avon Park's Visiting Room

Packing for a prison visit? Keep it simple. Avon Park's visiting room only allows a short list of items, and anything extra can stop you at the door.

Bring just one vehicle key into the visiting room. Keyless-entry fobs are not allowed unless the duty warden (or designee) inspects and approves the device. If you can leave it in your car, that's usually the easier option.

Anyone 16 or older needs a photo ID to enter the visiting area. Staff will check it at the front desk before letting you through.

You can bring limited feminine hygiene products into the visiting area. Pack only what you need for the visit itself.

You may bring up to $50 in cash per visitor for vending machines in the visiting area. Bills must be $1, $5, $10, or $20 denominations.

If you take prescription medication, bring only the dosage you'll need during the visit. Extra "just in case" doses are not allowed.

  • Keep each prescription medication in its original prescribed container
  • Make sure the label is clearly readable
  • Confirm the label shows the type of medication
  • Confirm the label shows dosage requirements
  • Confirm the label shows the name of the person the medication was prescribed to

Bringing an infant or small child? You can bring diapers, but Avon Park caps it at five.

For feeding items, stick to the exact limits. You may bring up to three clear baby bottles, up to two toddler sipper cups, and up to three clear jars of baby food (sealed and unopened).

Note: Staff cannot hold or store items for visitors. If you bring something that's not allowed inside, you'll need your own plan for securing it.

  1. Assume anything not on the authorized list will be denied - Items that are not listed, or quantities over the allowed limits, are treated as unauthorized.
  2. Secure extra items somewhere else for the visit - If the item is not contraband or illegal, you will be required to find a secure location for it for the duration of your visit.
  3. Return to check-in with only approved items - Once the extras are put away, you can proceed with the visit using only what is allowed inside.
