How to Send Money to Someone at B.B. Rayburn (JPay) — and Why You Can’t Hand Cash During a Visit

You can't hand money directly to someone during a visit at B.B. Rayburn or any other Louisiana state prison. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections requires all deposits to go through JPay, so any funds you want your loved one to have must be sent using one of JPay's approved methods.

If you're used to bringing cash when you visit, here's the shift: Louisiana state facilities, including B.B. Rayburn, don't allow cash handoffs. JPay is the only way to get funds onto someone's account. Pick the method that works best for you - fastest, cheapest, or most convenient - and make the deposit through JPay instead of trying to pass cash during visitation.

For online deposits, JPay accepts Visa and MasterCard credit/debit cards only. Fees scale with the amount you send: $0.00–$20.00 costs $3.50; $20.01–$100.00 costs $6.50; $100.01–$200.00 costs $8.50; and $200.01–$300.00 costs $10.50. If you're watching your budget, pick an amount that makes sense within the fee tier you'll hit.

Note: If you use a lobby kiosk at the facility with a credit/debit card, the card fees are the same as the internet fee tiers. If you deposit cash at the kiosk, there’s a $4.00 per-transaction fee for deposits from $0.01 to $500.00.

MoneyGram deposits are sent electronically and take two days to land in the imprisoned person's account. The maximum you can send is $4,999.99. Heads up: deposits of $500 or more are subject to investigation, so larger amounts may face extra scrutiny even when they're otherwise allowed.

  1. Fill out the deposit slip - Complete the JPay money order deposit slip.
  2. Buy a money order made payable to JPay - Make the money order payable to JPay.
  3. Mail the money order and deposit slip together - Send them to: JPay, PO Box 531370, Miami Shores, FL 33153.
  4. Plan for processing time - Money orders are processed within ten business days after JPay receives them.
