Sending Money to Someone at B.B. Rayburn: All Your Options Explained
Getting money onto someone's account in Louisiana state custody is straightforward once you know the deposit channels. Here are the options the Department lists, along with key limits and timing details that affect when funds actually show up.
For someone housed at B.B. Rayburn, family and friends have five official ways to send funds: mailing a money order, using MoneyGram walk-up locations, sending money online through JPay (including the mobile app), calling in a deposit through JPay by phone, or using kiosks in visiting areas. Need speed and convenience? The online/app and phone options let you handle everything from home. Prefer paying in person? MoneyGram walk-up locations work well. Mailing a money order is fine if you plan ahead, but factor in mail delivery plus processing time. Kiosks make the most sense if you're already at the facility for a visit.
Mailing a money order? Louisiana requires a JPay deposit slip to be completed and sent with your payment. Mail both to: JPay, PO Box 531370, Miami Shores, FL 33153. Keep in mind there's a cap: the maximum per mailed money order is $999.99. If you need to send more, you'll have to use a different method or split it into separate allowed amounts.
Timing matters with mailed money orders. Once JPay receives an approved money order, processing takes up to ten (10) business days. That's after receipt - so add mail delivery time when deciding if this method works for your timeline.
Need help with a deposit? For money order help or deposit questions, call JPay customer assistance at 800-574-5729.
Warning about $500+ deposits: Deposits totaling $500 or greater are investigated no matter which payment method you use, and that can delay the funds being available until the investigation is completed.
