What You Can and Can't Bring to Visiting at Raymond Laborde (Wallets, Cash & Contraband)

At a Glance

  • A purse or wallet that’s no larger than a standard men’s wallet
  • Up to $100 cash total (cash only)

If you’re 18 or older, bring photo ID every time you visit - staff will check it at each visit. RLCC accepts a valid state driver’s license, a valid state photo ID card, an active-duty military photo ID, or a passport.

RLCC only allows a purse or wallet in the visiting room if it's no larger than a standard men's wallet. Anything bigger? Leave it in your car.

You can bring cash into the visiting room - up to $100 total. Bring more than that, and you won't be allowed to take it in.

Medication is the one exception. Only life-saving or life-sustaining prescriptions are allowed - things like nitroglycerine pills, inhalers, or oxygen. Bring just enough for the visit, nothing extra.

  1. Tell staff at the visiting desk - Before you enter the visiting area, advise staff that you’re in possession of prescribed life-saving or life-sustaining medication.
  2. Keep it limited to the visit - Make sure the quantity you have with you is no more than what you’ll need for the duration of the visit.

Prohibited Items

  • Cell phones
  • Pagers
  • SIM cards
  • Portable memory chips
  • Batteries
  • Chargers
  • Cameras
  • Recording devices

Warning: Bringing contraband into visiting areas can get you removed from the visiting room, lead to possible prosecution, and cost you your visiting privileges.

Assume everything will be checked. All visitors - including minors - can be searched, along with their belongings and vehicles. Expect metal detectors, ion scanning equipment, and K-9s (sometimes even inside the visiting room during visits).

Note: If you refuse to be searched, you can be denied entry - and a visit can be ended if a visitor refuses a search.
