How to order a Union Supply food package for someone in a Georgia state prison (what families need to know)
If your loved one is at a Georgia Department of Corrections facility that participates in the Union Supply program, you can send them an approved food package. Here's what you need to know about ordering options, the shipping fee, package limits, and deadline rules that could get your order rejected.
Union Supply food packages are available for people at eligible Georgia facilities - State Prisons, Integrated Treatment Facilities (ITFs), and Probation Detention Centers (PDCs). If your person is at a participating location, approved family and friends can place an order through Union Supply.
How-to-place-order
- ✓ Order online - use the Georgia Inmate Package site (order forms are available there as well).
- ✓ Order by mail - Union Supply Group, LLC, P.O. Box 112, St. Louis, MO 63166-0112.
- ✓ Order by phone - 1-800-546-6283.
- ✓ Order by fax - 1-636-888-7004.
Prefer paper ordering? Grab the current forms from the Georgia Inmate Package website. Fill everything out carefully - small mistakes slow down processing, and you don't want to miss a deadline because something needed correcting.
Deadlines matter. Orders that arrive after the posted cutoff won't be accepted, even if everything else is correct. Also plan for the $2.95 shipping and handling charge on every order - that fee is non-refundable.
Limits-and-consolidation
- ✓ State Prisons and Integrated Treatment Facilities (ITFs): maximum $100 or 15 lbs.
- ✓ Probation Detention Centers (PDCs): maximum $50 or 7 lbs.
- ✓ Multiple orders can be consolidated to stay within these limits; if the combined total goes over the allowed maximum, the order can be rejected.
Tip: Before you place an additional order, check what’s already been ordered for that period so you don’t get surprised by consolidation or a rejection for going over the limit.
Not every Georgia facility uses Union Supply. Riverbend Private Prison, for example, uses Access Securepak instead. If you're unsure which vendor your loved one's facility uses, confirm before ordering - the wrong company means wasted time and a missed deadline.
- Confirm the facility uses Union Supply - make sure your loved one’s location is in the Union Supply program before you start.
- Get the order form and watch the cutoff date - use the Georgia Inmate Package website to download the current form (if you’re not ordering online), and submit early enough that it’s received before the deadline.
- Submit your order with the right expectations - every order includes a $2.95 non-refundable shipping and handling fee, and orders may be consolidated to the GDC limits ($100/15 lbs for State Prisons/ITFs; $50/7 lbs for PDCs).
