Barrow County Jail's Postcard-Only Mail Rule: What to Know Before You Write

Barrow County Detention Center only accepts postcards for regular inmate mail. Letters in envelopes, greeting cards, and similar items won't make it through. The exception is legal correspondence, which follows different rules.

Address your postcard to the Barrow County Detention Center at 652 Barrow Park Drive, Winder, GA 30680. On the address side, include the inmate’s name and ID number so staff can route it correctly.

S2

  • Use a postcard that’s at least 3 x 5 inches and no larger than 4 x 6 inches
  • Choose a postcard that is plain and white
  • Write your message in blue or black ink

Note: If your postcard isn’t plain white or it falls outside the 3x5 to 4x6 size range, it’s likely to be treated as unacceptable mail.

On the back of the postcard, include a complete return name and return address. On the front (the address side), make sure you list the inmate’s name and ID number along with the facility address: Barrow County Detention Center, 652 Barrow Park Drive, Winder, GA 30680. Leaving off the ID number or your return address is an easy way to delay or derail delivery.

Tip: If your postcard doesn’t have a complete return name and address, the facility can return it to you instead of delivering it.
