Visiting hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you're driving a long way, give yourself some buffer time - weekends are the only regular visiting days.

TDCJ counts visits by “visiting cycle,” which runs Monday through the following Sunday. That timing matters because visit limits are tied to the cycle, not the calendar month.

Eligible inmates can have one visit per visiting cycle. Since the cycle resets every Monday, that means one in-person visit during each Monday–Sunday window.

Each visit lasts two hours. The clock starts when both you and your loved one are in the visiting area - so if there's a delay bringing them out, you'll have less time together.

All visits are electronically monitored, except attorney-client visits. Can't make it in person? TDCJ offers remote video visits for eligible inmates - up to 60 minutes once per month, scheduled through the vendor website. These don't count against your regular contact visits.

During contact visits, physical contact is allowed but limited. You can embrace and kiss once at the start of the visit and once at the end.

Rule to remember: Holding hands is allowed only if your hands stay on top of the table and in full view of staff.

Traveling more than 250 miles one way? You may qualify for an extended visit - up to four hours instead of two. This isn't guaranteed; it's at the warden's discretion and depends on available time and space.

Plan for changes: Visitation is a privilege and can be temporarily restricted for an inmate or a visitor for rule violations or security concerns, and it may be discontinued during lockdowns, emergencies, or other serious incidents. If you’re traveling, call ahead before you leave.
