How to schedule (and verify) an in-person visit at Bautista Fire Camp

Bautista is a conservation (fire) camp, so crews can be activated on short notice. When that happens, the camp's operations shift fast - and visits may get canceled or rescheduled. Call or email before you travel to confirm your visit is still on. I recommend doing this even if you've already scheduled, especially if you're driving from out of town or visiting for the first time.

Call before you leave: Bautista Conservation Camp can be reached at (951) 927-3600. Because fire crews can be activated on short notice, use the camp phone (or email) to check for last-minute changes before you travel.

To schedule a visit at Bautista, contact the camp directly by phone or email. For weekend visits, the scheduling window runs Monday through Friday for that same weekend - so reach out early in the week to get the day you want. Not sure what information they'll need? Start with a simple request for an in-person visit and follow the camp's instructions from there.

Heads up: VSA (the online Visit Scheduling Application) isn’t available for CDCR fire camps. Visits are scheduled through the camp by phone or email.

During CDCR's "Open Phase," in-person visits run between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Your exact start time and visit length depend on what the camp can accommodate - another reason to confirm details directly with Bautista when you schedule.

Visits are limited to no more than five approved visitors per incarcerated person. If your group is larger than that, plan ahead - decide who is going this weekend, and who will visit another time.

Some situations can make someone ineligible to receive visits. At camps, residents in medical isolation cannot have visitors - even if you already made plans to come.

Day of Visit Steps

  • Self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms the day of your visit, and only go if you’re symptom-free.

You don't need proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a test to visit. Masks aren't required for visitors anymore, but they're encouraged - and the camp will have masks available if you want one during your visit.

  • Bring your ID.
  • Keep the camp contact info handy so you can call if you’re delayed or if you need to confirm the visit is still on.
  • Bautista Conservation Camp phone: (951) 927-3600
  1. Call the camp to confirm what changed - Use (951) 927-3600 to verify whether the crew was activated and whether visits are canceled.
  2. Ask what your next scheduling options are - If the weekend is no longer available, ask when you should call or email to request the next weekend slot.

If an in-person visit won't work out, ask the camp about video visit options. Fire camps don't use VSA for scheduling, so you'll need to get any video visiting details directly from Bautista.
