What to Expect in the Visitation Room at Bay Regional: Searches and Safety Procedures
Your first visit to Bay Regional can feel nerve-wracking, especially with all the security rules. Here's what to expect—searches, room checks, and what can get a visit cut short or denied.
Every visitor at Bay Regional goes through an electronic search before entering. Keep what you bring to a minimum - personal items like keys, purses, and packages aren't allowed past security. Leave them in your car. It speeds up check-in and keeps you from getting turned away at the door.
- Sign in on the youth’s Visitor’s Log - you’ll be required to sign in on the log for the youth you’re visiting.
- Sign out before you leave - you must also sign out on the same Visitor’s Log when your visit is over.
Note: If you refuse to be searched or refuse to comply with officer instructions, you can be denied entrance.
Security continues after check-in. Staff search the visitation room before and after each visit, looking for hazardous items or contraband. If you see officers doing checks or clearing the area, that's routine - nothing to worry about.
Warning: Introducing any unauthorized items into a detention facility is a third-degree felony.

Once you're admitted, your visit can still be ended early. Disruptive behavior - from you or the youth - or breaking facility rules can cut things short. Worse, a terminated visit may lead to suspension of future visits. That call is up to the Superintendent.
