Who Can Visit Your Child at Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center

Parents are automatically approved to visit at Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center. No special permission needed.

Grandparents are also on the automatic approval list. They don't need special permission to be eligible for visits.

Legal guardians are automatically approved as well. If you're the youth's legal guardian, you're already cleared to visit.

Anyone who isn't a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian can't just show up. Other visitors need either a court order or specific approval from the superintendent (or their designee) before they'll be allowed in.

Some visits happen because they're part of a youth's case or support services. Legal counsel, probation officers, law enforcement, clergy, and other professionals may visit as needed - but they still have to follow facility requirements, including signing in and following contraband rules.

1. Contact the assigned Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) - The youth’s JPO is the person you should reach out to for visitation list additions and any special visitation arrangements.
2. Explain who you want to add and what you’re requesting - Be clear about whether you’re trying to add someone to the visitor list or you’re asking for a special arrangement.
3. Confirm what approval is required - Depending on the situation, the visit may require a court order or specific approval by the superintendent or designee.
4. Verify the approval before anyone travels to the facility - Getting confirmation ahead of time helps avoid a visit being turned away at the door.

Every visitor must sign in and out on the youth's Visitor's Log. Expect to complete this as part of your normal check-in and departure.
