Mail to Inmates at Beaver County Jail: What’s Allowed, Photo Rules, and Exactly How to Address Letters

Quick Checklist Envelope Return

  • Use an envelope no larger than a standard #10 envelope.
  • Put your complete name and full return address on the outside of the envelope.
  • Don’t use stick-on return address labels.
  • If you want the inmate to have your address, write your return address inside the letter too (the envelope itself is not given to the inmate).

Note: Incoming letters are opened and inspected for contraband before they’re forwarded to the inmate.

Copy this format exactly on the envelope: Inmate's Name (inmate number) P.O. Box 391 Beaver, UT 84713

Photos Image Rules

  • Maximum of 2 photos per envelope.
  • Photos must be no larger than 4" x 6".
  • No polaroid-style photos.

Photo content that will be rejected: Pictures can’t show violence, nudity, sexual acts, or gang-related activity (including hand signs).

Keep regular mail simple. Beaver County Jail doesn't allow postage stamps inside inmate mail, so don't tuck extras into the envelope. Items like that get removed or can cause your entire mailing to be rejected during screening.

Reminder: Because mail is opened and inspected for contraband, anything not allowed may be taken out or can keep the mail from being delivered.

Legal mail has specific labeling requirements. At Beaver County Jail, "legal mail" means correspondence to or from attorneys, state or federal courts, the Attorney General of the United States, or the Attorney General of Utah. For your letter to be treated as privileged, mark the front of the envelope clearly with "Privileged" or "Legal Mail."

Note: Even with legal/privileged mail, the jail’s mail process includes screening - regular incoming letters are opened and inspected for contraband before being forwarded.

Don't skip the return address. If mail arrives without one, Beaver County Jail holds it in the inmate's property for 30 days. After that, it's either destroyed or sent out.

  1. Write your complete name and return address on the envelope - mail is required to have the sender’s complete name and return address.
  2. Skip stick-on return labels - stick-on return address labels aren’t allowed.
  3. If you forgot the return address, know what happens next - the mail is placed in the inmate’s property for 30 days, then it will either be destroyed or it must be sent out.
