What Services and Programs Are Available to Inmates at Bedford County Correctional Facility
Want to help your loved one make the most of their time at Bedford County Correctional Facility (BCCF)? Here's a clear rundown of the programs and services available—plus what you can do from the outside to encourage participation.
BCCF offers two types of work opportunities: institutional job assignments and a workforce program. Institutional jobs are selected assignments - some inside the facility, others outside BCCF. The workforce program is separate and keeps participants working within the facility.
- ✓ Classification Committee approval
- ✓ Deputy Warden approval
- ✓ Warden approval
- ✓ Probation Department approval (at times)
BCCF has a commissary where inmates can purchase items. To buy anything, your loved one will need money in their inmate account.
- Purchase a money order - this is one way visitors can send funds.
- Send the money order for deposit to the inmate’s account - the deposit is intended to be used for commissary purchases.
- Your loved one uses the account balance at commissary - once the funds are on the account, they can buy approved items through commissary.
Each housing unit has access to a Treatment Specialist. This person helps with problem solving, explains available programs, and handles referrals to the right staff. If your loved one wants to get connected with programming, the Treatment Specialist is the best starting point.
Note: Correctional Officers at BCCF can also provide support and help inmates work through problems as they come up.
Religious support is available through the Chaplain, who can help meet individual faith needs. If spiritual practice is part of your loved one's routine, encourage them to ask about Chaplain services once they're housed.
- Have your loved one request Chaplain support - the Chaplain is the point of contact for religious needs.
- Ask about a specific faith representative if needed - if requested, the Chaplain may contact a representative from other faiths for the inmate.
Barbering is available on a scheduled basis. Your loved one will need to follow the facility's schedule for when haircuts are offered.
The most helpful thing you can do from outside? Encourage your loved one to ask the right people early. For programs and referrals, that means talking to the Treatment Specialist - they know what's available and can route requests to the right staff. For outside work assignments, remind them these jobs require higher clearance and go through multiple approvals (Classification Committee, Deputy Warden, Warden, and sometimes the Probation Department). Patience and following the process matters.
