What Services and Programs Are Available to Inmates at Bedford County Correctional Facility
If your loved one is at Bedford County Correctional Facility (BCCF), several programs and services can help with daily life and personal growth. Here's what's available and how it all works.
BCCF offers two types of work opportunities: institutional jobs and workforce program jobs. Institutional assignments may involve work inside the facility or, in some cases, outside of it. The workforce program provides additional work options within BCCF.
Jobs outside BCCF require a higher level of clearance. These assignments need approval from the Classification Committee, Deputy Warden, and Warden. Sometimes the Probation Department must sign off too. This approval chain explains why some work options take longer to come through, particularly when they involve leaving the facility.
BCCF has a commissary where inmates can purchase basic items like hygiene products, snacks, writing supplies, and some clothing. Purchases come from funds in their account.
- ✓ Visitors may send an inmate a money order.
- ✓ The money order can be put on the inmate’s account.
- ✓ Funds on the account can be used for commissary purchases.
Each housing unit has access to a Treatment Specialist. This person helps with problem-solving and explains what programs BCCF offers. They also handle referrals to AA, NA, educational programs, and work programs.
Note: Correctional Officers at BCCF also provide support. They can help inmates with problems and connect them to the right resources.
The Chaplain at BCCF provides religious support. This can be grounding for people coping with stress, separation from family, and the daily structure of incarceration.
If an inmate follows a different faith, the Chaplain can contact a representative from that tradition on their behalf. Your loved one can start by requesting chaplain support, then ask for outreach to their specific faith when needed.
Barbering is available on a scheduled basis. For other routine services or programs, ask facility staff directly about current offerings and how to request them.
