How to Send Money to Facility
If your loved one's facility uses Securus, you'll generally have two ways to cover calling costs: a prepaid account or monthly billing.
Your options depend on which phone provider the facility uses. With Securus, you'll typically see two account types: AdvanceConnect (prepaid) and Direct Bill (monthly billing). Before setting anything up, confirm that Securus is actually the provider where your person is housed.
AdvanceConnect is Securus’s prepaid calling account. It lets you add funds to your incarcerated contact’s Securus Debit account, and they can use that balance to pay for Securus services available at their location.
Direct Bill is Securus's monthly billing option. Call charges get billed to you each month. Approval typically involves a credit check, so this option isn't available to everyone.
Note: This page covers Securus account options, not what a specific facility accepts. Fees, limits, processing times, and alternative vendors can vary. Confirm the current rules with the facility or Securus before sending money.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Confirm whether your loved one’s location uses Securus services for calls and related account funding.
- ✓ If Securus is used, decide whether you want a prepaid approach (AdvanceConnect) so you can add funds to your contact’s Securus Debit account.
- ✓ If you prefer monthly billing and it is offered for that situation, ask about Direct Bill and be prepared for a possible credit check to qualify.
- ✓ Complete the enrollment steps required by Securus for the option you choose, then make your deposit or set up billing.
Even when Securus offers an option, availability depends on the specific facility and which services are enabled there. Before adding money to any account, confirm that Securus is the provider and that your preferred option (AdvanceConnect or Direct Bill) is supported for your loved one.
- ✓ Whether Direct Bill is available for the facility and for your specific phone number
- ✓ Whether a credit check (or any other qualification step) is required for Direct Bill
- ✓ Any Securus enrollment details you must match exactly (name, address, phone number, or other account setup requirements)
For accurate instructions, check the facility's official information under "phone," "communication," or "inmate accounts." Compare that with Securus support materials for the account type you want. If something doesn't match (for example, an option appears online but staff say it's unavailable), go with what the facility confirms.
