Visitation

How to Visit Facility

Visiting is simpler once you understand Michigan's system and the few rules that can keep you off the schedule.

To schedule an in-person or video visit, you'll need to register on the Michigan DOC Visitation Scheduling website, hosted by ViaPath (formerly GTL). That's where all visits are created and reserved.

You can't create an account or book a time slot until your visiting application has been approved. If you're not seeing scheduling options, check your approval status first.

Plans can change fast if the facility or a specific unit goes under medical quarantine. Scheduled visits may be canceled when that happens, so check the quarantine status before you travel.

In-person visits are scheduled in set blocks: 3 hours on weekdays and 2 hours on weekends.

  1. Confirm your visiting application is approved - You cannot create or schedule a visit until approval is on file.
  2. Register on the Michigan DOC Visitation Scheduling site (ViaPath) - Registration is required for both in-person and video visiting.
  3. Schedule your visit in the system - Once you are registered and approved, you can select an available in-person or video time slot.
  • Schedule at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Do not schedule more than 7 days in advance.
  • You may schedule up to two separate visits on the same day with the same prisoner.

Note: A medical quarantine can cancel visits even if you've already booked. Always check the facility's quarantine status before you leave home.
