How to Send Money to Facility

One approved method is mailing a money order made out to the inmate. The money order goes toward the inmate's canteen account and needs to be mailed directly to the inmate using the facility's required mail format (the same format outlined in the facility's "Mail" instructions).

Berkeley County also has an in-person lobby kiosk in the front main lobby of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. You can use it to add money to an inmate's canteen account with cash or a credit card. There is a processing fee for each deposit.

Note: Before sending money or making a deposit, confirm the exact mail format and address for money orders. Also verify that the kiosk is available for your situation, along with accepted payment types and current fees.

  1. Buy a money order - Purchase a money order in the amount you want to send.
  2. Make it out to the inmate - The money order should be made out to the inmate so they can deposit it into their canteen account.
  3. Follow the facility’s mail format exactly - Address and format the envelope the way the facility requires in its “Mail” instructions.
  4. Mail it directly to the inmate - Send it using the required format so it can be processed for deposit.
  1. Go to the lobby kiosk at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office - The kiosk is located in the front main lobby.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to select the inmate and add funds - The kiosk is used to add money to an inmate’s canteen account.
  3. Pay with cash or a credit card - The kiosk accepts both.
  4. Complete the deposit and account for the processing fee - The deposit includes a processing fee, so expect the total to be higher than the amount you are adding.

What to Verify

  • The exact mail format the facility requires for sending a money order
  • The correct mailing address to use for money orders sent for deposit
  • The inmate’s name and any required identifiers that must appear on the envelope
  • Whether money orders are accepted for canteen deposits (and any limits or restrictions)
  • Whether the lobby kiosk at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is the correct deposit option for the inmate you are trying to fund
  • Whether the kiosk currently accepts cash, credit card, or both
  • The current processing fee amount for deposits
  • When the kiosk is available for use (hours and any access limits)
  • Whether there are other approved ways to add funds if the kiosk is not an option for you

Tip: Check the facility's official instructions (or call them directly) to confirm the latest procedures, addresses, and fee schedules before you send money or use the kiosk.
