Before You Visit Berks County Jail: Arrival, Parking, and ID Checklist

Arrive no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled visit. Show up too early and you may be turned away until you're within that window. Aim for close, not early.

That 15-minute window matters because there are no walk-ins - every visit must be scheduled by 3:00pm the day before. Same-day appointments aren't available. To book, call (610) 208-4800, select option 3, and speak with a receptionist between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Monday–Friday. Once you have a confirmed time, plan your travel so you arrive within that check-in window.

You must arrive in a vehicle, and it needs to stay on the property for your entire visit. Drop-offs aren't allowed - don't plan to get dropped off and picked up later.

Need a handicapped parking space? Mention it when you schedule. The receptionist can make sure one is available at your visit time.

Photo ID

  • Proper government-issued photo identification

If stairs are difficult, mention that when you call. The jail has one ground-level visitation room for visitors with disabilities, and noting this upfront ensures your visit gets set up in the right space.

  1. Call to schedule during the posted hours - Phone (610) 208-4800, select option 3, and speak with a receptionist Monday–Friday between 8:30am and 3:00pm.
  2. Request handicapped parking while you’re scheduling - Tell the receptionist you require a handicapped parking space so staff can ensure one is available at your scheduled time.
