Tablet Money vs. Trust Fund Money at Berks County Jail: Why You Need Separate Accounts

Trying to put money on someone at Berks County Jail? The biggest mistake is assuming all "inmate money" works the same way. It doesn't. Berks runs two separate systems, and where you send the money determines what your loved one can actually do with it.

Tablet Money vs. Trust Fund Money at Berks County Jail: Why You Need Separate Accounts

Berks County Jail keeps tablet money and trust-fund money completely separate - they don't mix. Adding funds for tablet purchases like entertainment or messaging? That goes through GettingOut. Adding money to the trust account for commissary? You'll use ConnectNetwork instead, either online or by phone at 1-888-988-4768. When depositing through ConnectNetwork for Berks, use Site ID #61 so the funds land in the right place.

Quick rule: Use the GettingOut site for tablet funds only. It’s separate from the inmate trust-fund deposit system.

Money loaded onto the tablet side stays there - it's locked into tablet use only. That covers things like music, games, and messaging features. You can't transfer it to the trust fund later. Before you deposit anything, figure out what you're trying to cover: day-to-day commissary spending from the trust account, or tablet-based communication and entertainment.

Heads up: If you mail in a deposit, don’t tuck in personal letters, notes, or photos - Berks County Jail says those will be destroyed.

Tablet Money vs. Trust Fund Money at Berks County Jail: Why You Need Separate Accounts

Commissary has a spending cap: $100 per week for orders placed through the tablet or kiosk. Those purchases pull from the inmate's trust fund, so keeping that account funded is what makes commissary orders possible.

Prefer not to deposit online or by phone? Berks County Jail accepts mailed deposits to the inmate accounts department. They'll take government checks, payroll checks (include the stub), and money orders. For money orders, include the inmate's name, inmate number, and the purchaser's name and address - miss any of that, and it won't be accepted.
