What You Need to Know About Berks County Jail's Visit Limits and Rules

Each inmate at Berks County Jail gets four 30-minute in-person visits per calendar month. That's the number to plan around. If you want visits spread throughout the month, pace yourself so you don't use them all up early.

Good to know: In addition to in-person visits, each inmate is credited with two free 15-minute video calls each week.

Video calls happen through a tablet system, and tablet access is a privilege. The jail can restrict it. Inappropriate behavior during video calls has consequences on both sides - the inmate can lose tablet privileges, and the visitor can lose visitation privileges entirely.

Before making plans, confirm you're eligible to visit. You must be scheduled and on the inmate's approved visitation list. The jail makes no exceptions - showing up with someone who's approved or just hoping they'll let you in won't work.

Up to three visitors can attend each in-person visit. If more people want to come, you'll need to rotate across different visits.

  1. Call to schedule - Phone (610) 208-4800 and select option 3 for “visitation.”
  2. Speak to a receptionist during scheduling hours - You must speak with a receptionist between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Monday–Friday.
  3. Meet the deadline - Visits must be scheduled no later than 3:00pm the day prior to the visit.
  4. Don’t plan on same-day visits - Same-day appointments and walk-ins are not permitted.

Berks County Jail System is located at 1287 County Welfare Road, Leesport, PA 19533. The main phone number is 610.208.4800.

Bringing kids? Plan your supervision carefully. Children cannot be left unattended anywhere on jail property. If you need to handle check-in or paperwork, bring another adult so no child is ever left alone.

What You Need to Know About Berks County Jail's Visit Limits and Rules

What you wear matters. Berks County Jail can deny visits for inappropriate attire, and the Lobby Officer makes that call. Stick with conservative, uncomplicated clothing to avoid a wasted trip.

  • Wear clothing that won’t be considered inappropriate; entry can be denied at the Lobby Officer’s discretion.
  • Keep video calls appropriate; behavior considered inappropriate can cause the inmate to lose tablet privileges and the visitor to lose visitation privileges.
  • Avoid conduct specifically called out as inappropriate during video calls, including nudity, gang signs/gang-related activity, and vulgarity.
  • Remember tablets/video calls are privileges and may be restricted.

Denied a visit? Double-check the two things the jail enforces strictly: you must be scheduled, and you must be on the inmate's approved visitation list. No exceptions. For scheduling questions or to set up a new visit time, call (610) 208-4800, select option 3 for "visitation," and speak with the receptionist Monday–Friday between 8:30am and 3:00pm.
