How to Set Up Video Visits at Berrien County Jail (GTL) — step-by-step
Checklist Before Start
- ✓ A device that can access the GTL site (if you’re on an iPhone/iPad, plan to use Safari)
- ✓ An adult (you must be at least 18 to schedule a visit)
- ✓ A way to pay for visits (internet visits cost $10 per 20-minute block, paid by the visitor)
- ✓ The correct site to create your account and schedule: berrien.gtlvisitme.com
Note: If you’re using an iOS device, set your default browser to Safari and use berrien.gtlvisitme.com/app for scheduling and conducting visits.
Head to berrien.gtlvisitme.com to get started. This is the GTL site Berrien County Jail uses for account setup and scheduling video visits.
Using an iPhone or iPad? Make sure Safari is set as your default browser, then go to berrien.gtlvisitme.com/app for scheduling and conducting your visit.
You can schedule a video visit up to 5 days in advance, but not last-minute - you need to book at least 1 day before your visit.
Keep in mind that inmates have limits too. Each inmate can have two video visits per day and up to ten per week. If you're not seeing open slots, the day or week may already be full.
Up to three visitors can join a single visit, and at least one must be an adult. The person booking needs to be 18 or older - so if you're setting this up for a child or teen, an adult has to handle the scheduling.
Weekday video visits run Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan around this window if you're working or coordinating after school.
Saturday visits are split into two blocks: 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You get a short morning window and a longer evening stretch.
Tip: Because you must schedule at least 1 day ahead (and can book up to 5 days out), look at the posted weekday and Saturday hours first, then grab the earliest open slot that fits your schedule.
Video visits cost $10 each and last 20 minutes. You pay when you book.
Good to know: Berrien County Jail provides one free internet visit per week.
All video visits are monitored. Inappropriate behavior can get your visit terminated - and you'll still be charged. Treat the call like someone's watching the whole time, because they are.
Never do a visit while driving. It's against Michigan law to conduct a video visit on a mobile device while the vehicle is moving. Get caught and you'll be suspended from video visitation - two weeks for a first offense, one year after that.
