What You Need to Know Before Sending Mail to Berrien County Jail — Postcards Only

Berrien County Jail only accepts postcards for general mail - no letters, no envelopes. The postcard must measure between 5" x 3 1/2" and 6" x 4 1/4". Anything outside those dimensions gets rejected.

  • Minimum postcard size: 5" x 3 1/2"
  • Maximum postcard size: 6" x 4 1/4"

Postage trips up a lot of people. Berrien County Jail doesn't accept regular stamps on incoming mail. Your postcard needs metered postage - the printed postage mark you get at the post office or through a postage meter. Stick a stamp on it, and it won't make it through.

Tip: Double-check for metered postage before mailing. Stamped postcards get rejected.

Prohibited Items

  • Picture postcards
  • Envelopes (including letters)
  • Packages of any kind
  • Boxes
  • Periodicals
  • Any non-postcard mailings

Scenic postcards from your trip? Cards in envelopes? Neither will make it through. The jail doesn't accept picture postcards, envelopes, packages, boxes, or periodicals. If prohibited mail arrives, staff may try to return it to the sender - but there's no guarantee.

A few exceptions exist. Legal mail follows different rules, and authorized photographs may be allowed. If you're sending either, follow the jail's specific requirements for legal mail or photo authorization - otherwise it'll be rejected as non-postcard mail.
