Before You Drive to Moore Unit: The Confirmation Checklist
Prison visits take planning. The last thing you want is to arrive and discover the person you're visiting has been moved, lost their privileges, or visitation was canceled. Run through this quick checklist before heading to the Moore Unit.
Before you hit the road, confirm two things: that the inmate is still assigned to the Moore Unit, and that they currently have visitation privileges. Transfers happen. Privileges get revoked. Either one means a wasted trip if you don't check first.
Note: Make sure you’re an approved visitor before you go. If you’re scheduling through the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler, you’ll need to create your own scheduler account - TDCJ staff can’t create visitor accounts for you.
Check the Moore Unit's visitation schedule and make sure visitation hasn't been canceled. TDCJ updates their visitation info once daily on weekdays and multiple times on visitation days - so checking Monday isn't the same as checking Saturday morning. Unit-wide cancellations get posted on the TDCJ homepage.
- ✓ Look up the Moore Unit visitation schedule before you leave.
- ✓ Verify the date and time you plan to visit.
- ✓ Check the TDCJ homepage for any unit-wide visitation cancellation notice.
- ✓ Re-check on the visitation day itself (updates may post multiple times that day).
Even if everything looks good online, call the Moore Unit before you travel. Staff can confirm you have the most current information and that visitation is still happening as scheduled.
Last Minute Checks Before Leaving
- ✓ Bring a valid photo ID.
- ✓ Keep your visit within the standard visiting hours: Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- ✓ Pack only permissible items for the secured perimeter: a small wallet, a clear plastic bag (Ziploc-type) or change purse, and up to $35 in coins.
- ✓ If you’re bringing an infant or toddler, limit baby items to no more than three diapers, baby wipes, and two baby bottles (or a “sippy” cup), stored in a clear plastic bag.
- Confirm you’re approved (and set up scheduling if needed) - Verify you’re an approved visitor; if you’re using the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler, create your own account (staff can’t create it for you).
- Check the schedule and cancellations - Confirm the Moore Unit’s visitation schedule and look for any unit-wide cancellation notice on the TDCJ homepage.
- Call the unit before you leave - Get final confirmation from the Moore Unit so you don’t drive out on outdated information.
