How to Schedule Your First Visit at Moore Unit (step-by-step)

Quick Checklist

  • The inmate’s 8-digit TDCJ or SID number
  • A valid photo ID to bring with you on visit day

You'll need to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account - staff can't do this for you. Choose your email carefully: once an account is tied to an email address, it can't be deleted or changed later.

  1. Start your account with your email - Enter the email address you want tied to your scheduler account. Use one you’ll keep, because that email can’t be changed later and the account can’t be deleted.
  2. Complete the verification step - Watch for the system’s verification code and enter it to continue.
  3. Set your password - Create your password and finish the setup prompts so your profile is fully created.
  4. Finish your visitor profile - Work through the scheduler’s questions and profile fields. This is your account, and you’re the one who has to create it - TDCJ staff can’t do it for you.

Reminder: Bring a valid photo ID with you on visit day - staff will expect to see it when you arrive.

Once you're logged in, add the person you want to visit by searching with their TDCJ or SID number. The number must be exactly 8 digits - double-check before submitting. When the right person appears, you'll also select your relationship to them.

After adding the inmate and selecting your relationship, submit the request for approval. This is a "do your part, then wait" moment - you've done what you can, and now the relationship needs to be confirmed before you can schedule.

Pay attention to where your request shows up in the scheduler. If you see the person listed under "Relation Requests Pending Approval," your request hasn't been confirmed yet - you won't be able to schedule. Once confirmed, they'll move to your verified relationships, and that's when you can book a visit. Still don't see a scheduling option after verification? Read the message next to the inmate's name carefully. The scheduler uses specific labels and messages to tell you what's happening.

What “Not Approved for Visits” means: Even if your visitor/inmate relationship is confirmed, the scheduler will show “Not Approved for Visits” (instead of a Schedule Visit button) if the inmate’s visitation privileges have been removed.

When you're ready to book, the scheduler will walk you through several setup screens before you confirm a date and time. Move slowly. Read each screen carefully - especially anything asking you to choose options - so you don't accidentally back out or select the wrong thing and have to start over.

Not seeing available dates? Don't assume the system is broken. Availability disappears when the inmate already has a visit scheduled or when visitation privileges aren't active. A clear sign: the scheduler shows "Not Approved for Visits" instead of letting you schedule.

Before you drive: Confirm the inmate is assigned to Moore Unit and has visitation privileges, and call the unit for final confirmation before traveling.

Official visiting hours are Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Even with a scheduled visit, build in extra time - especially if it's your first trip.
