Understanding Moore Unit's Visitor List Rules: Who Can Visit and How to Get Approved
Visiting someone at Moore Unit comes down to two things: being on the inmate's approved Visitors List and the inmate having active visitation privileges. Once you understand the list limits, change windows, and what those online scheduler messages actually mean, planning a visit gets a lot easier.
Before making plans, confirm the inmate is assigned to Moore Unit and currently has visitation privileges. Things change. Visits get canceled. Don't rely on an old schedule or a previous approval - call the unit for final confirmation before you travel.
Each inmate at Moore Unit can have up to 10 people on their Visitors List. That list is the official record of who's authorized to visit during regular visiting hours.
The Visitors List can't be swapped around whenever someone new wants to visit. How often names can be added or removed depends on the inmate's classification: institutional inmates can make one change every six months, while inmates in state jail, intermediate sanction facility (ISF), or substance abuse felony punishment (SAFP) designations can make one change every 60 days. This timing matters if the list is full or you're trying to replace a name. Not sure which window applies? Ask the inmate to verify their status so you know how quickly your name can be added.
The TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler shows whether you can actually book a visit. When everything checks out, you'll see an option to schedule. But if your relationship with the inmate has been confirmed and the inmate's visitation privileges have been removed, the scheduler won't let you book - it displays "Not Approved for Visits" instead of the Schedule Visit button. That message means something's wrong. Confirm what's going on before planning a trip.
- Create your own scheduler account - You must set up your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account; TDCJ staff can’t create visitor accounts for you.
- Submit a visitor/inmate relationship request - Use the scheduler to request approval to visit the Moore Unit inmate.
- Watch what the scheduler shows - If you can schedule, you’ll see the scheduling option. If you see “Not Approved for Visits,” the inmate’s visitation privileges are not currently available, even if the relationship itself was confirmed.
- Call Moore Unit before you travel - Confirm the inmate is still assigned there and has visitation privileges so you don’t make a long trip for a visit that can’t happen.
Note: A confirmed visitor/inmate relationship doesn't guarantee you can schedule. If visitation privileges are removed, the scheduler shows "Not Approved for Visits." Call the unit before you travel.
