What You Can (and Can't) Bring to Moore Unit Visitation
Packing for a visit at Moore Unit? Keep it simple. Bring only what's allowed inside the secure perimeter, and you'll breeze through screening instead of getting turned away over something small.
Stick to the basics inside the secure perimeter. You can bring a small wallet or change purse, plus a clear plastic bag (Ziploc®-type works great). That clear bag is your best bet for keeping approved items organized without hauling in a purse or larger bag.
- ✓ No more than three diapers
- ✓ A supply of baby wipes
- ✓ Two baby bottles (or a “sippy” cup for toddlers)
- ✓ Store these baby items in a clear plastic bag
Coins are allowed inside the secure perimeter, but there's a strict limit - and paper money isn't permitted at all. Planning to use the vending machines? Bring coins within the limit.
Leave electronics and most personal items behind. Cell phones aren't allowed inside the secure perimeter, and neither are pagers, laptops, or digital recorders. Everyday carry items trip people up too: purses, diaper bags, briefcases, cameras, baby strollers, toys, dolls, and photographs or photo albums all stay outside.
Weapons and contraband are a hard no. No knives, drugs, tobacco, or tobacco-related items. Lighters and matches are also prohibited inside the secure perimeter.
Note: Any food items are prohibited inside the secured perimeter. Don’t pack snacks or drinks for the waiting area - leave them in your vehicle.
Medication generally isn't allowed inside the secure perimeter. The one exception: prescribed medication may be approved on a case-by-case basis. Don't assume you can walk in with it - get approval first.
If something isn't specifically on the "allowed" list, assume it may be refused. When in doubt, leave it in your vehicle and bring only what you need.
Paper money isn't allowed inside the secured perimeter. Coins only, and no more than $35 worth.
Vending machines are available in the visitation areas - that's why coins are allowed. Want to buy something during your visit? Make sure you've got coins, not bills.
Tips Security Checkpoint
- ✓ Use a clear plastic (Ziploc®-type) bag for allowed items instead of bringing a purse
- ✓ If you’re bringing baby supplies, keep them to the approved amounts and store them in a clear plastic bag
- ✓ Don’t bring food items past the checkpoint - leave snacks and drinks behind
- ✓ Leave purses, diaper bags, strollers, toys, and photos/photo albums in your vehicle
- ✓ Leave all electronics in your vehicle, including your cell phone and other electronic/wireless devices
- Arrange special situations ahead of time - Special visits or visits needing special accommodations should be set up before you arrive.
- Confirm any medication exception before you travel - Because medication is generally prohibited (with prescribed-medication exceptions handled case-by-case), get clarification in advance so you’re not turned away at screening.
