Visitation

How to Visit Facility

Visiting is usually straightforward when you plan ahead. Focus on two things before you go: what you can bring inside, and whether your visit will be approved.

How to Visit Facility

Bringing medication? The rules are strict. Only prescribed medication that is life-saving or life-sustaining is allowed, and you can only bring what you'll need for the length of the visit. Let staff at the visiting desk know as soon as you arrive.

Visitor approval involves more than checking boxes. A prior criminal conviction does not automatically disqualify you, but the Warden (or a designee at the Assistant Warden level or higher) can deny visitation for security reasons. That decision must be documented in writing. You may also need to verify that you are an immediate family member as part of the approval process.

How to Visit Facility

Steps to Follow

  • If you must bring medication, bring only prescribed medication that is life-saving or life-sustaining, and only the quantity needed for the duration of the visit.
  • Tell staff at the visiting desk that you are in possession of medication.
  • Leave telecommunications and related items behind, including cellular phones, pagers, batteries, chargers, and any cameras or recording devices.
  • Do not bring food, toiletries, or clothing into visitation.
  • Be ready to verify your identity and, if required, provide proof that you are an immediate family member.
  • If you have a prior conviction, know that it does not automatically disqualify you, but the Warden or designee can deny a visit for security reasons with written justification.

Note: Medication must be prescribed, life-saving or life-sustaining, and limited to what you need for the visit. Disclose it to staff at the visiting desk. Visitation can be denied for security reasons, but the decision must include written justification.

Before you go, call ahead about medication. Ask whether your specific medication qualifies as life-saving or life-sustaining under their policy, how much they'll allow for the visit, and whether you need to do anything beyond telling staff at the desk. If you rely on a device or item that could look like something prohibited, ask whether exceptions exist.

Also confirm how the visitor approval process works. Ask what documentation they accept to verify immediate family relationships and how they handle security concerns. If a visit gets denied, find out how you'll be notified and what your options are. Denials must include written justification from the Warden or designee.
