Visitation

What you can (and can't) bring into the visiting room at David Wade Correctional Center

3 min read Verified from official sources

David Wade Correctional Center keeps the visiting-room property list short. You can bring your picture ID, one car key (or one keyless device), loose change in a see-through bag or small plastic container, and one credit or debit card for food purchases. Visiting with a small child? A few baby items are allowed, but they must be packed in a see-through bag and limited to enough for one diaper change.

The allowed-items list here is short and specific. Bring only what's listed below, and follow the packaging rules where they apply. The see-through bag requirement matters.

  • Picture ID
  • One car key or keyless device
  • Change in a see-through bag or small plastic container
  • One credit or debit card in order to purchase food

Tip: Keep your picture ID and your single credit or debit card easy to pull out at check-in so you are not digging through belongings at the front.

Visiting with a small child? David Wade allows a limited set of baby supplies into the visiting room. Pack everything in a see-through bag. The amount should cover one diaper change, not a full diaper bag.

  • One diaper
  • One baby bottle or child’s cup
  • One pacifier
  • Baby wipes (in a see-through bag)

You can carry one credit or debit card into the visiting room to purchase food. Need to put money on the imprisoned person's account? Louisiana state facilities use JPAY for deposits, and David Wade has a JPAY kiosk in the Visitor Processing Area.

Reminder: Do not hand money directly to an imprisoned person. Use JPAY (including kiosks at the facility) for deposits instead.

Leave your phone and electronics in the car or at home. Louisiana's Department rules treat telecommunications equipment as contraband. That includes cell phones, pagers, SIM cards, portable memory chips, batteries, chargers, and cameras or recording devices.

Expect screening. All visitors, including minors, can be searched before entering and during a visit. This includes your property, your vehicle, and your person. Facilities may use metal detectors, ion scanning equipment, and K-9s.

Warning: Do not try to bring in phones, chargers, or recording devices. They’re treated as contraband, and searches can happen before you enter and while you’re in the visiting room.

  1. Put your ID and one payment card where you can grab them fast - These are allowed items, and they’re usually the first things staff need to see.
  2. Pack change (and any baby items) in a see-through bag - Change must be in a see-through bag or small plastic container, and baby supplies must be in a see-through bag.
  3. Expect screening and possible additional searches - Searches can include property, vehicle, and person checks, plus metal detectors, ion scanning, and K-9s.
  4. Leave prohibited electronics behind - Telecommunications equipment and related parts (phones, SIM cards, batteries, chargers, cameras, recording devices) are considered contraband.
