How to Send Mail to an Inmate at Boyd Unit Using TDCJ’s Digital Mail System
Writing to someone at the Boyd Unit? Most personal mail doesn't go directly to the unit anymore. Since September 6, 2023, it routes through TDCJ's digital mail processing center, where staff scan it and deliver it to the inmate's secure tablet.
Since September 6, 2023, incoming mail for people at the Boyd Unit goes through TDCJ's digital mail program. Your letter doesn't arrive as a physical original. Instead, it's routed to a processing center, scanned, and uploaded to the inmate's secure tablet. This applies to everyday correspondence - letters, photos, greeting cards. The biggest change for families? Where you address the envelope.
Address your letter to the digital mail processing center, not directly to the Boyd Unit. Include the inmate's full first and last name plus their TDCJ number. Use this format: Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inmate's Full First and Last Name + TDCJ Number PO Box 660400 Dallas, TX 75266-0400
Tip: Double-check the inmate’s name and TDCJ number before you mail it. If that information is missing or wrong, your mail may not be matched to the right person.
Most personal mail - letters, photos, greeting cards - goes through the digital processing center. Staff scan it and deliver it to the inmate's tablet. A few exceptions should go directly to the unit instead of the Dallas PO Box. Before mailing anything that looks official or comes from a publisher, double-check which address to use.
