Boyd Unit Visiting Hours and Schedule: What You Need to Know

Under standard TDCJ rules, visitation happens on weekends. Hours are Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan your travel, work schedule, and childcare around that window.

Heads up: Visitation details can change quickly. TDCJ updates unit information once daily on weekdays and multiple times on visitation days - call the Boyd Unit to confirm before you travel.

TDCJ tracks visits using a "visiting cycle." Each cycle runs Monday through Sunday - a full week on a consistent schedule.

Eligible inmates can generally receive one visit per cycle. That means one visit per week, counted Monday–Sunday rather than by calendar month.

Visitation limits can vary by custody level and visit type. Inmates in G1, J1, and J2 custody are allowed one contact visit per week - same weekly framework, but worth noting if you're specifically planning a contact visit.

Regular visits last two hours. The clock starts when both you and the inmate are present - check-in and waiting time don't count. But once the visit officially begins, any delays eat into your two hours.

Boyd Unit Visiting Hours and Schedule: What You Need to Know

TDCJ offers four visit types: Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet. One important distinction - Video/Tablet visits are separate from the Securus video program available at some units.

Not every visit type is available in every situation. What you can schedule depends on your relationship to the inmate, how the unit's visitation areas are set up, and the inmate's current privileges. If an option doesn't appear when you try to book, one of those factors is likely the reason.

Remote video visits via kiosk or tablet are an extra option - not a replacement for in-person visits. Under TDCJ rules, eligible inmates can have one remote video visit per month, up to 60 minutes, separate from contact or regular visits.

Before you go: Confirm the Boyd Unit's current schedule and make sure visitation hasn't been canceled. Call the unit directly, especially if you're traveling a long distance.
