Boyd Unit Visiting Hours & Weekend Checklist (When to Go, How Long, and Scheduling Tips)

Visiting hours at the Boyd Unit are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Still, confirm your specific visit details before you travel - especially if you're coming from out of town. You don't want to arrive expecting a slot that isn't available.

A regular visit lasts two hours. Keep that in mind when deciding what time to aim for, how long you'll be at the unit, and whether other travel plans can fit into the same day.

Your two hours don't start when you pull into the parking lot - the clock begins once both you and the inmate are present in the visitation area. Build in extra time for check-in so you're not eating into the visit you traveled for.

The TDCJ online scheduler prevents double-booking by hiding dates during any week when the inmate already has a visit scheduled. If certain dates aren't showing up, someone else probably already booked that week. Pick a different weekend, or coordinate with anyone else who might be scheduling.

Call Unit: If the scheduler shows “Call Unit” instead of a Schedule Visit button, you’ll need to call the inmate’s unit of assignment to schedule the visit.

  • Check the online scheduler first; if dates you expected to see aren’t listed, it may be because the inmate already has a visit scheduled that week.
  • Look specifically for the Schedule Visit button; if it’s replaced by “Call Unit,” you can’t book online for that inmate.
  • If you see “Call Unit,” call the inmate’s unit of assignment to schedule your visit.

Traveling a long distance? You may be able to request an extended visit. At the warden's discretion, visitors coming more than 250 miles one way can sometimes get up to four hours - if time and space allow. Call the unit ahead of time to ask what's required.
